On 26 September, Frostbyte took part in Vísindavaka, an annual Icelandic science communication event for all ages.

At our booth, visitors could try Hacker Academy, an educational cybersecurity game with two challenges and a leaderboard.

The first challenge asked players to guess people’s insecure passwords of increasing difficulty using clues from their social media posts. It showed how information shared online can make a password easier to guess.

The second challenge tested players’ ability to recognise phishing attempts. Players examined text messages and emails, looking for clues that could help them identify a scam.

Most of the lab’s members attended the event, and several also presented posters about their final projects. Visitors could learn about their work and ask questions about the research taking place at Frostbyte.

One of our lab members also demonstrated how a malicious Wi-Fi access point could reveal information about the browsing activity of connected devices.

Throughout the day, visitors of all ages stopped by to try the games, meet the lab members and discuss cybersecurity. Among them was Clara Ganslandt, the EU’s ambassador to Iceland, who joined us for a chat at the booth. It was a pleasure to meet everyone who visited our booth and share some of what we do at Frostbyte. Thank you to everyone who stopped by, tried the games, and asked questions! Five Frostbyte lab members posing at their Vísindavaka 2026 booth, with research posters behind them.
